Thanks for publishing my comments. I tend to run the gambit...seeing both the skeptical and religious viewpoints. I have just written a post on the need for perspective in interreligious dialogue. In case you are interested, here is the post. http://deligentia.wordpress.com/2009/10/31/missing-the-obvious-in-religious-discussion-something-we-have-in-common/

I suppose the question might involve how two parties can learn to disagree. I must admit the rigidity sanctioned under the rubric of religion would not be acceptable in other domains. Perhaps this means there is a larger problem...

Enjoyed the article - I am struggling to generate demand for a product in the emerging markets. I am hampered by the lack of cultural affinity for the product. With changing lifestyles and increasing spend by consumers, perhaps we shall see the market take off. But even in the next 5-10years I foresee the penetration levels to go up to 20% only. But volume wise the sales would definitely be higher. I think the point you make about creating your future rather than following one of the several paths is a poignant one and motivates me to stay the course.

Nice entry here. I remember hearing about this couple at some point. Maybe it was this NPR story from a year ago - a nice listen for those interested:
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=10889047

I think one interesting thing this illustrates is how slow some change happens. Per the story here - a couple from that same VA county must endure much to this day (and I am writing from VA right now so I can believe this):

"Blazer says that although many things have changed since the days of anti-miscegenation laws, life is still difficult for them in Caroline County. The couple endures sneers, sideways glances and more from strangers.

"Just a couple of months ago... Bryan got beat up in the Wal-Mart parking lot because he was with me and my sister, and these white men came up to him and they were yelling. The guy ripped off his shirt. He had racial slurs all over him...and they just started going at it," Blazer says."

A lot of progress has indeed occurred and it should be celebrated. A lot more progress to go on the road ahead towards true acceptance and respect between the races. In fact:

"Sociologists estimate that 7 percent of the nation's 59 million marriages are mixed-race couplings."

That is a shockingly low percentage.
